Clean Sloppy Joe’s

I love sloppy joe’s so much, it was always one of my favorite meals when I was a kid.  My Dad would make them almost every weekend we went to visit.  And he would always make them from scratch, never the mixture from the can.  They are quick and easy and you can make a lot at one time!  I wanted to make a healthier version that my husband and kids would still enjoy…here’s what I came up with.

Ingredients
1 lb. ground turkey
half a medium yellow onion (optional)
1 tbsp coconut oil3/8c reduced sugar ketchup
1/8c plain yellow mustard
1/8c sugar free maple syrup
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/8 tsp sea salt (optional)

Directions
Brown turkey (buy as lean as you can), drain whatever grease there may be.  Chop half a medium size yellow onion.  Saute in coconut oil until translucent.  Add in browned turkey and the rest of the ingredients and combine!

I eat mine on Ezekial Tortillas, but you can use whatever you prefer. If I’m feeling frisky, I may add a tiny bit of Cabot 50% less fat shredded cheddar cheese (I love this stuff)!
